The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a federal act that protects individual's medical records and other personal health information. HIPPA protection is not covered by particular organizations and entities. The entities not covered by HIPPA include healthcare providers, health plans, healthcare clearinghouses, and lastly business associates. For HIPAA to comply with the security rule it must follow certain factors. It must ensure that there is confidentiality with health information. It must detect and protect against any threats that may be anticipated and also impermissible uses. Lastly workplaces must meet HIPPA certification in order to operate.
